The Basque Studies Program at Boise State University joins NABO

The Basque Studies Program at Boise State University became a member of the federation of North American Basque clubs, NABO, this weekend. BSU’s Basque Studies Program is a multidisciplinary department that includes various aspects of the language, culture and history of the Basque people. The Program provides the possibility completing a minor in Basque, taking Basque as an elective, or to take part in the various workshops offered throughout the year.

Boise, ID.  The Basque Studies Program at Boise State was accepted as a Member of NABO at its fall meeting.  The Program aims to promote knowledge of the Basque culture, language, history and political challenges, as part of a state that has a large and very active Basque population. 

The program offers a degree in Basque Studies that includes Elementary Basque and the option of 23 other electives, like Intermediate or Advanced Basque, Basque Dance, Politics, Culture, Art in the Basque Country, Literature, Film, Basque Immigration to the US…(class catalog here).  One can also receive a Certificate of Basque Studies by taking ten of these courses.

Professors that will offer classes and workshops this fall include: Nere Lete, John Ysursa, Lisa Corcostegui, Xabier Irujo, Dave Lachiondo and John Bieter.
