Everything is ready in Donostia for the launch this Wednesday of the 5th World Congress of Basque Collectivities that will unite nearly 80 Basque club delegates from 22 different countries. Delegates will begin arriving on Saturday for this great gathering of Basques in the Diaspora that takes place every four years with sessions taking place on November 2-4. These three days are jam packed, not only with the congress meetings, but will also include the Euskal Herria Mugaz Gaindi seminar, a special session for scholars, as well as an exhibition of stands of various Basque entities in the Diaspora, among which will be EuskalKultura.com. See you at the Kursaal!

Donostia-San Sebastian.  The Conference Palace Kursaal, in Donostia-San Sebastian, will be the site for the 5th World Congress of Basque Collectivities abroad, a gathering that takes place every four years for Basque clubs and federations from the Basque Diaspora.  Each edition performs an assessment of the projects carried out by the euskal etxeak and the Basque Government; new programs are created, while delegates share views, experiences and the problems they face. The meeting is also an opportunity for representatives of different entities to get to know each other, to create new contacts, and to strengthen existing ties.

Delegates from 22 countries will begin arriving this weekend and during the congress will be joined by young Gaztemundu program. The conference will also include several parallel activities, all in the Kursaal, all acts, except for the days of the Congress itself, are open to the public to raise awareness of the presence and experience of the Basque Diaspora.

The Congress will begin on Wednesday with presentations by federations of Basque clubs and entities such as the Etxepare Basque Institute and HABE.  The official inauguration will take place in the afternoon with Lehendakari Patxi Lopez also in attendance.  In addition, centers older than a century will receive special recognition.

On Thursday, the Euskal Herria Mugaz Gaindi (EHMG) seminar will take place within the context of the congress, a monographic conference on citizenship abroad.  Friday several takes will be presented discussing issues raised during the congress and conclusions will be drawn.
