Alacant-Alicante, Spain. Taking advantage of the resources that new technology provides, a group that is studying Basque with Izaskun Kortazar at the Official Language School (EOI) in Alacant-Alicante interviewed on line Basque writer Peru Magdalena (besides being a Bertsolari and writer, he is also a painter, documentarian, etc.). The students in level B1.1 at the EOI, had read several of Magdalena’s stories ahead of time and were interested in these as well as his creative process.

The two stories they red are “Gero eta gehiago dira” and “Matxinsaltoa eta Tximeleta,” both included in the book Lile (2006).

The students spoke with special knowledge of the cause, being themselves authors as well in their classes with Kortazar of stories such as “Sorgin Bakartia,” “Arrautz magikoak,” “Auzokoak Espazioan,” and “Misio Sekretua."

The writer congratulated his interviewers for their choice to study Basque and in their role as Basque writers.  “Peru was very surprised by the students, not only for their capacity to understand him, but also that for their capacity to write in Basque, and their creativity,” Kortazar told EuskalKultura.eus.

Magdalena also presented a book of haikus, entitled Tantaka, and read some excerpts to them,   explaining the genesis of the book.  Professor Kortazar Errekatxo clarifies that in their A1 classes in Alacant, they use this book “so the students realize that they are capable of reading and understanding Basque literature in their first year.”
