The team representing France, Regis Lavie and Rodolphe Bidart, were the winners of the XXXV World Mus Championships of Basque Collectivities. This year’s tournament, organized by the Zazpiak Bat Basque Club of Vancouver, took place from September 21-29. The games were all played on board a cruise ship which toured incredible landscapes along the west coast of Canada and Alaska. We have included the results of the 12 participating teams.

Vancouver, Canada.  Elena Sommer, president of the Zazpiak Bat Basque Club was very satisfied with how the XXXV World Mus Championships went, highlighting the great atmosphere during the games played on the cruise.  The expedition included nearly 135 people including players, delegates and their companions, whose presence did not go unnoticed on the ship.

Tournament winners were Regis Lavie and Rodolphe Bidart, both from Hasparren, representing France who won 9 out of their 11 matches.  Raul Romano and Jose Macchi, Argentina’s team, placed second, while third place went to US representatives Fidel Marcos and Pedro Mariezcurrena.

“I think that everyone had a good time, especially the mus players that spent all day playing, since that’s why they came,” Sommer explained.  “In addition, there was a parallel tournament organized for the companions who wanted to play, outside of the championship that was very well attended.” During the cruise, the voyagers could enjoy spectacular landscapes like Glacier Bay National Park.
