Lima, Peru.  The Euskal Etxea in Lima, as winner of the last tournament, has organized the Mercomus 2013 Championship that began yesterday.  The tournament will include Muslaris from Basque clubs in Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela who will play matches throughout the week.   Participants will also be able to enjoy a complete program of activities and tours through the city of Lima.

The Lima Basque club will be the headquarters for the tournament and the games will be followed with great interest by fans and members of the cub.  Tonight the club will host a gala dinner to welcome tournament participants where they are also expecting a large number of members to attend. 

Closing dinner

On Saturday, the delegations and members will attend an exhibit of Peruvian Paso horses, the emblematic animal of Peru, and later they will be treated to a lunch of local gastronomic specialties.  The closing dinner will also take place on Saturday along with the awarding of trophies at the Basque club with a performance by the local Basque choir.

The club has also announced that during the championship they will also inaugurate another surprise program dedicated to the history of the Basques in Lima and in Peru.  In addition, the club’s Mus committee will publish daily tournament results.
