The third meeting of children’s Basque teachers in the US took place at the Boise Basque Museum last Saturday. The event was attended by teachers from different places of the country. The event was also focused on the book Umeen Euskara Liburua, where Boise teacher Itxaso Cayero, proposes games and songs in Basque to use in children’s classes. The teachers were kids for a day to learn the games that they will later use in their classes. The book will be used as didactic material in children’s classes in the US starting this year.

Boise, ID.  The third annual meeting of Children’s Basque Teachers in the US took place last Saturday, November 16th at the Boise Basque Museum, conducted by Itxaso Cayero also from Boise. The focus of the meeting was the book Umeen Euskara Liburua written by Cayero herself that proposes a series of games and songs in Basque that can make classes more dynamic while helping children learn Basque in a fun and playful way.

Besides presenting the book Cayero also invited the teachers to participate and have fun with the songs and games in the guide.  “It was a very dynamic workshop and the teachers played the role of students for a day, participating in the games,” Izaskun Kortazar, NABO’s Euskera Coordinator explained.

To be used in all classes

The book is very practical and provides detailed information to prepare and teach classes; necessary materials for each exercise, length and explanations, additional internet resources and homework are also provided.

The guide will be used this year in all children’s classes in US Basque clubs. One of the goals is that the children learn the same types of games and songs so that they can share and socialize on Children’s Day that will be celebrated next year.
