Iban Zaldua and Mari Jose Olaziregi to participate in a linguistic conference at the University of Bologna, Italy

The University of Bologna, Italy, will host a conference entitled, “The Plural Spain” today and tomorrow. The conference was organized by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University, with the goal of reflecting “on the linguistic, artistic, and historic characteristics that characterize the diversity that, stemming from a rich multilingualism, defines the cultural field of contemporary Spain.” Basque representatives will include Basque writer Iban Zaldua accompanied by the director of the Promotion of the Basque Language at the Etxepare Basque Institute, Mari Jose Olaziregi.

Bologna, Italy. An international conference will begin today at the University of Bologna entitled, “The Plural Spain,” that will debate the multilingualism of the Spanish state and where diverse linguistic, artistic, and historic aspects of the Basque, Catalan, Galician and Spanish languages will be analyzed.

The Basques will begin their participation today with a talk by Mari Jose Olaziregi, The Etxepare Basque Institute’s director of the Promotion of the Basque Language and Basque Literature expert.   Her talk is entitled, “On Elcano’s Path: Basque Language and Culture in the World.” In the afternoon she will participate in a roundtable on “The Promotion of Languages and Cultures” along with representatives from institutions such as the Institute Ramon Llull of Catalonia and the University of Valencia, among others.

Tomorrow it will be Basque writer Iban Zaldua’s turn, who will participate in the “Voices of the Literary Field,” discussion along with Ricardo Menendez Salmon and Jordi Punti.
