Founded in 1994, Gure Ametza of Rio Cuarto, in the southern Argentinian province of Cordoba, has promoted the Basque Culture in the area for two decades. Years of works have given outstanding results the members of the House are proud of and for that they will offer an Anniversary Dinner on the 18th of October. Meanwhile, throughout 2014, the usual activities will continue at the institute, such as taverns, Basque classes, paella sales, Basque movies, lectures, and the publication of the newsletter, that will all be added to the Anniversary commemoration.

Rio Cuarto, Argentina.  There are numerous examples of how the Basque Community of Rio Cuarto, organized in Gure Ametza center, has earned a place in society.  The Basque Country plaza, the presence of Basque cinema in the Leonardo Favio Cultural Center, and the activities carried out jointly with the local university are evidence that the goal of outreach is met handsomely.  To these points, you can add the excellent reception they have of paella sales by the House- last June they sold more than 450 portions- and the cultural and recreational activities offered by the institute.

With this in mind, and to point out the start of a new course, the administrators of the Basque house have contacted our newsletter to publicize in advance the schedule of events for 2014, the 20th anniversary of the Basque house, “so that no interested activity is lost.”

Basque classes will begin in March in Gure Ametza.  Led by soccer coach Pablo Cufre, the courses are aimed at adults and children.  Registration is now open and can be done by email (gureametza2012@gmail.com) or by phone (0358 462 4651).  Also in March will be the first tavern of the year, specifically on the 14th at 10pm.  The first paella sale for take-away will be delayed until June 15th, when portions will be available at 12pm.  On July 20th, in celebration of Friendship Day, there will be a late afternoon chocolate tasting and on August 10th they will return to light the stoves to prepare the second batch of paella for the year.

This year, as in years before, cinema will have a prominent place in the timeline of events: in May there will be a new delivery of short films at the Leonardo Favio Cultural Center; on September 18th there will be a documentary at the center's headquarters.

But the most important event, without a doubt, will be the 18th of October, when the 20th Anniversary Dinner will be held at the institute's headquarters.  The year, anticipated to be full of activities, will also close quickly on December 12th with the final tavern to celebrate International Basque Day.

News will be revealed as it is confirmed, and above all “the founding partners and all persons who directly or indirectly collaborated and contributed to the growth of this institution” will be celebrating the first 20 years of the Rio Cuarto Center.
