Fourth Anniversary of the Navarrese Club in Mar del Plata and second edition of its magazine

This marks the fourth anniversary since a group of descendants of people from Navarre in the city of Mar del Plata decided to reestablish a local Navarrese club. During this time, the club has done a lot of hard work to keep moving forward and make their cultural roots known to the entire community. Among the last activities carried out is the participation of club dancers and board members at the “Latin-American Sails 2014” that gathered dozens of sailboats at the south of the continent. Along with this news, the club has also announced its fourth anniversary festivities that will include the presentation of the second number of its magazine.

Mar del Plata, Argentina.   On March 4th the Navarrese club in Mar del Plata was one of the participants in the welcome offered by the city to the ships that participated in the 2nd gathering of “Latin-American Sails 2014” that took place in the vicinity of the Playa Grande.

The reception given the visiting sailors took place in the afternoon and began with a presentation by the Argentinean Navy Band.  Following, the ships’ crews then paraded in front of authorities who were located at the Hotel Costa Galana.  Along with the sailors, there were also representatives from foreign governments who also marched wearing traditional costumes.

The first sailing event took place in 2010 and given its success, South American navies have decided to hold the event every four years in hopes of strengthen the bonds of friendship.  The ceremony was very successful and gathered more than 150,000 people among locals and tourists.

Fourth Anniversary

Club youth have begun to organize the fourth anniversary festivities.  The event will take place on April 6th at noon and will include a BBQ for members and friends.  The lunch will also include entertainment provided by the club dancers who will perform a repertoire of traditional dances.

During the festivities the second number of the club’s magazine Riau Riau will also be presented.  It includes information on various cultural, sporting, and social activities as well as notes to people residing in Argentina as well as to authorities, groups and cultural references that are in Navarre.  According to Sebastian Borro, club treasurer, Riau Riau can be received in either paper or electronic format.  The paper version will be distributed in the city and the area and the electronic version can be downloaded from anywhere.  In order to access it, click here.
