Boise, Idaho, US. Todor Azurtza Sorrondegi is not a name that is unknown to those who read EuskalKultura.eus. A deeply multifaceted person, despite his youth, he has a rich biography which includes the places he has lived: born in Caracas, raised in Donostia, twenty years in Paris, then London, New York, to Boise where he lives with his wife who is a Basque and from Boise, the many languages he speaks, his training and varied interests which include his economic and science studies, but also his fondness for the humanities, music, literature, bertsolaritza, also pilota and sports….all amalgamated by the curiosity and commitment of a deep euskaltzale militancy.

We have reflected in these pages some of his Boisean cultural activities, although he was also an active part of the Euskal Etxea when in Paris.  In Boise, we have seen him teach Basque and culture at the Basque Museum, also on the court as a pilota instructor and supporting traditions such as Santa Agueda, among many other Basque activities.  He is a humble, enterprising and idealistic person.  He doesn’t get lost in lip service.  He proposes and gets to work, with generosity and optimism, no matter how high the obstacle. He does what is in his power, contributing his grain of sand, that many times is precious..

This is how he gets into many different projects, we say this recognizing the respect that we have to this one-man band.  Today, we only are proposing you to read an interview in Basque done by Bertsoa.eus about US Bertsolaritza and the Bertso Eskola that he has formed with other friends in the Idaho capital. This is not the first school he has launched in Boise, where he is also a teacher and promoter of Basque pilota. These are things that his profound Basque nature demands of him, as a Basque in the Diaspora, a stron feeling that he carries in his DNA.

We will talk on another day, about his skills as a luthier, and his musical training, his activity as a txistulari or alboka maker.  But that will ne next time.  Here is the interesting interview by Bertsoak.eus.
