Election of new FEVA officers and visit by Asier Vallejo tomorrow at the Laurak Bat in Buenos Aires

FEVA elections to vote for a new president, secretary and treasurer of the federation will take place tomorrow at the Laurak Bat Basque club in Buenos Aires. The election only includes one list of candidates led by current treasurer, Hugo Andiazabal. After the vote, the club will welcome Basque Government representatives, Asier Vallejo, Director of Basque Communities Abroad and Sara Pagola, Delegate of Euskadi in Argentina and Mercosur.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Fulfilling the federation’s statutes, FEVA will hold is General Assembly this Saturday, April 26th where it will also hold elections.  Positions needed to be filled for the 2014-16 term include the president, secretary, treasurer, four directors, and four alternates.  Three account reviewers will also be elected, but in this case, only for a one-year term.  They will also put forth the Summary and Evaluation for December 2013 for consideration and approval at the meeting.

The list of candidates includes:

-President: Hugo Andiazabal, Arbola Bat, Junín (two years)
-Secretary: Javier Ederra, Unión Vasca, Bahía Blanca (two years)
-Treasurer: Pedro Mauregui Larranda, Zingirako Euskaldunak, Chascomús (two years)

-Director: Marta Abarrategui, Euskaldunak Denak Bat, Arrecifes (two years)
-Alternate: Ana Victoria Idígoras, Euskaldunak Denak Bat, Arrecifes (two years)

-Director: Verónica Zulaica, Denak Bat, Cañuelas (two years)
-Alternate: Catalina Etchevers, Denak Bat, Cañuelas (two years)

-Director: Cristina Arregui, Zazpirak Bat, Rosario (two years)
-Alternate: Alicia Igarzabal, Zazpirak Bat, Rosario (two years)

-Director: María Susana Mendizabal, Gure Etxe Maitea, Olavarria (two years)
-Alternate: Hilda Isabel Eyherabide, Gure Etxe Maitea, Olavarria (two years)

-Account Reviser: Francisco Javier Zubillaga, Euzko Etxea, Necochea (one year)
-Account Reviser: Mónica Mercedes Azpiazu, Lagunen Etxea, Laprida (one year)
-Account Reviser: María Ángeles Oñederra, Toki Eder, José C. Paz (one year)

In order to participate in the Assembly FEVA reminds clubs that they need to be paid up and also need to present proof their current legal status.  Club representatives will also need to show that they indeed are representing said club.  The Assembly will take place at Laurak Bat, Avenida Belgrano 1144 starting at 9:30am.

Asier Vallejo’s Visit

Once elections are over, Basque Government representatives, Asier Vallejo, Director of Basque Communities Abroad and Sara Pagola, Delegate of Euskadi in Argentina and Mercosur, will visit Basque club representatives gathered at Laurak Bat.

Asier Vallejo has been touring the cities of Necochea, Mar del Plata and Chascomus since Tuesday, April 22nd. Accompanied by Sara Pagola, the delegation met with Basque club boards of directors in Necochea and Mar del Plata and today they will do the same with members of the Zingirako Euskaldunak in Chascomus.

As part of their visit to the Euzko Etxea in Necochea, Vallejo and Pagola met with the board of directors and then had dinner at the club’s restaurant along with members and friends of the institution.  On Wednesday morning, they were welcomed by the City Government’s Secretary.  Later that day, the Basque Government representatives arrived in Mar del Plata where they were welcomed by authorities of the Denak Bat Basque club where they had the chance to talk to the club’s dancers as well.  The dinner concluded with dinner at the clubhouse.

Yesterday morning, Vallejo and Pagola met with the Mayor and later travelled to Chascomus where they have two appointments with local authorities and the Basque club.  The two were joined on the last leg of their tour by FEVA president, Ricardo Basterra.

Vallejo’s visit to Argentina will conclude in Buenos Aires where he will meet with Basque club representatives participating in FEVA’s General Assembly.  Saturday afternoon he will attend the presentation of the book Patria Vasca en Argentina by Magdalena Mignaburu at the book fair.  Finally, he will leave for Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil on Monday, to meet with the Basque community there.
