We have received news of an opportunity to work in the Basque Country that might be very interesting for youth from the Diaspora: a family in Gasteiz is looking for an au pair that knows English to take care of two kids starting in June. The job consists of picking up a six-year-old girl and her eight-year-old brother from the Ikastola during the school year, and taking care of them during the day in summer. The family speaks Basque and they would like someone who is interested in the Basque culture and language and they would help that person learn and practice Basque. The au pair would be treated as a member of the family, would have his/her own room, and would be compensated 70 Euros a week for expenses.

Vitoria-Gasteiz.  A family in Gasteiz has contacted EuskalKultura.com to publicize a job offer for young people in the Basque Diaspora.  They are looking for someone who would like to go to the Basque Country and work as an au pair to care for their two children (a six-year-old girl and eight-year-old boy).  The job would begin in June and would last through October, although this can be extended if both parties agree.

The family is looking for a person older than 18 with experience in child care who speaks English so that the children can practice with him/her.  Age isn’t a factor; the family is looking for someone who is dynamic, active and who would like to get to know the Basque Country.  This family has had au pairs before and they have reported that it has been a very positive experience for everyone involved.  The only thing is that these former au pairs didn’t speak Basque and so this time the family would prefer someone who is interested in either learning or practicing euskera so that they could help.

Summer in Lekeitio

The job consists of picking up the two kids from Ikastola and taking care of them for an hour after school, and in the summer taking care of them during the day while the parents are at work, with weekends off.  This person would speak English with the kids, and the family in turn would help learn or practice Euskera or Spanish.  The au pair would have his/her own room and would be paid 70 Euros a week.

This person would be treated as a member of the family and would spend summer vacation with them in Lekeitio.  In addition the family would also take trips to various places in the Basque Country to better acquaint the au pair to the country.

The family is looking for someone from June through October but this may be modified.
