The North American Basque Organizations organizes a summer Barnetegi in Euskal Herria

NABO, the North American Organization of Basque clubs, has opened registration for those interested in attending an intensive Basque course this July in the Basque Country. The classes will take place at the Maizpide Barnetegi in Lazkao with an English-speaking professor. The price of the course, including room and board, is 414 Euros. On the other hand, the Basque community in Boise has begun organizing Korrika that will take place on March 9.

Boise, Idaho. NABO’s Basque chair has organized an intensive langauge course in July at Maizpide Barnetegi in Lazkao.  The classes will take place from July 1-12, with an introductory level, with an English-speaking professor.  Classes are six hours a day, with additional cultural activities in Basque.  Sundays will be reserved for outings.

Participants must be older than 16 and can people can register from any country.  In order for the course to take place, at least 8 students need to enroll.  There is also the possibility of registering for more advanced classes.  Maizpide will offer other intensive courses in June, all month, and the last two weeks of July and August.

Korrika in Boise

On the other hand, the Basques in Boise have announced other activities related to Euskera. The Basque community there is organizing the third edition of the Basque Basque Run/Walk Korrika that will take place on March 9.  This activity is in support of Korrika, the popular race by AEK euskaltegis.  The entry fee is $15 that will go towards training more Basque teachers in Basque clubs in the US.

The race will include live music provided by Boise’s Txatxangorriak, an Aurresku by one of the Oinkaris, and children’s activities prior to the race.  The starting line will be at the Basque center.  Participants will receive bags with water and talo prepared by Jesus Alcelay, to regain their strength along the way.  The day will conclude with dinner and drinks at the Basque Block.
