For the second year in a row, the Sub-commission on Culture at the French Basque Club – Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea gathered and donated toys and hygiene products to children and families of patients at the Pediatric Hospital, Pedro de Elizalde.  The collection took place previously and the club’s end of the year party.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.   Thanks to the solidarity of the members and friends of the Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea they were once again able to make a large donation to the Pediatric Hospital, Pedro de Elizalde, that included not only toys for the children but also towels and other hygiene products for those who stay with them while they are admitted.

“The toys were collected at the Olentzero party, that our club celebrates at the end of the year,” as Norma Rios told EuskalKultura.com.  “We collected a total of 250 toys, including rattles, toy cars, balls, dolls, educational toys, stuffed animals, story books and puzzles.  Remember that patients at the hospital don’t have any economic means, and that they come from some of the remotest corners of our country and neighboring countries,” Rios said.

In regards to delivering everything, it took place in various rooms in the hospital and included the “most appreciated collaboration,” of the Rosa Ladies, a volunteer group that has worked at the hospital for years.  “We want to thank everyone who came to the club to donate, as well as those volunteers who worked so hard, and always are so willing to help.  It makes us very happy to contribute to the well-being of the children and to see their faces when they receive their presents.  We think that helping our society gives our everyday work more sense.  It is very important to open these older institutions to our community, not only sharing our Basque heritage but also directly contributing to the well-being of our citizens,” she expressed.
