Even if the city’s anniversary date is May 1, the celebrations take place throughout the entire month in this Argentine town in the province of Santa Fe.  As part of its organization, the local Basque club is putting together an entire exhibition about the Basques that will include photos, videos, displays, anecdotes and dancing.  Along with this news, Euskel Biotza also let us know that their legal proceedings will be over soon.

Roldan, Argentina. Officially established in 2014, the Euskel Biotza Basque club will take another step this year to regularize its administrative situation.  In fact, they are finalizing the legal formalities and expect resolution and an end in about a month, club representatives told EuskalKultura.com.

Besides administrative questions, the Basque club has also assumed responsibility for representing the local Basque community, and will also have a large task this year as part of the city’s 150th anniversary celebration.

As explained by Gabriela Menghi, club spokesperson and dance instructor, “the date of the anniversary is May 1 and the city is preparing to celebrate it fully.  Our city is a colony of Basques, Swiss and Italians, and from our place as descendants of those Basques who participated actively in the local history, we are preparing an exhibition that will include videos, displays, anecdotes and dances.  All of this to tell the people about the influence and the Basque presence in the area.  We are working with people in the city that know a lot about local history, Basque descendants and are helping us compiles images as well as talking to several references of Basque culture to expand the contents,” the dantzari said.

As part of the celebration, there will be a civil/military parade that Euskel Biotza will also participate in. The city has also left us a space where members of the Basque club can hold the exhibit on the Basques, their history and legacy during the week.  Without a doubt, it will be a great opportunity fo the Basque club who has already started dance practices with the adult group “Indarra” on February 28.  Practices are held on Sundays from 5-8pm.  The children will begin practicing in March.

Festival of the Carcaraña Community

Invited by the organizers, the dantzaris from Roldan danced in December in the neighboring city of Carcaraña.  “After nearly 20 years, we have returned to the Community Festival in Carcaraña, where we had dances 20 years ago and have now returned to step on Carcaraña soil, which moved us deeply.  Especially because our txiki group is formed of children of former dantzaris who had also danced there,” Menghi explained to EuskalKultura.com.
