The celebration of an event in honor of their own members is an established tradition on the calendar of Basques in Pehuajó, in the Argentinean province of Buenos Aires. This year, they have been planning the fourth edition of the even that will take place in just a few days in June. As every year, along with lunch there will be images of the Basque Country projected to bring the land of their ancestors closer. Maria Elida Oroz, secretary on the club’s new board of directors, also announces that Basque classes will resume in June.

Pehuajó, Argentina. With a fairly charged activity list, the Basque club in Pehuajó --4:30 hours driving distance of Buenos Aires city-- is getting ready for the upcoming events it organizes.  The work is not scarce, but members of Etxe Alai do it with pleasure and have much experience and rely on the excellent response their activities received from the community.

Celebration of “Members’ Day,” is a perfect example of that.  It emerged three years ago in hopes of honoring those that support the day-to-day work that keeps the institution alive, the initiative will celebrate its 4th edition in 2014. “The exact date has yet to be determined but we know that it will be in June, either next weekend, or the one after that at the latest.  We will provide lunch and there will be videos of Basque Country landscapes shown during the meal,” Maria Elida Oroz, club secretary told EuskalKultura.com.

The club’s newsletter is also a priority and those responsible are working hard to be able to distribute it next week.  Students can also get ready since Euskera classes will also begin in June.  “As last year, Alejandra Begochea will travel from Trenque Lauquen to teach us.  She will come once or twice a month and we will work on our own and will correct, and comment things with her during our get-togethers,” said Oroz.

Birthday and Book Fair

The Basque club will celebrate its anniversary in July by selling locro and will also participate in the local book fair in September.  As part of the fair they will present the book Patria Vasca en Argentina. Un siglo de nacionalismo vasco,by Magdalena Mignaburu.  In the same way, Maite Guevara will visit the club second semester and will give a workshop on Risoterapia (Smile Therapy).  “Remember that we also offer weekly classes at the club on gymnastics, yoga and weaving,” Oroz reminded us.

Regarding the new board of directors, the General Assembly where elections were held took place on April 4th.  The result of the election for the 2014-15 term is comprised of the following individuals:
