La Plata, Argentina. The project began in 1993 supported by the Euzko Etxea Basque Club in La Plata and will celebrate its 27th anniversary next week. The current circumstances, a result of the pandemic, has made it impossible to hold in person events, but nevertheless the Chair of Basque Free Thought at the National University of La Plata (UNLP) will commemorate the signing of the agreement between the Basque club and the University with an event that reflects the spirit of “giving priority to democratization of knowledge.”
On June 16th, when the anniversary will be commemorated, the Chair will publish a digitalized version of the Catalogue of “valuable donations made by Eusko Ikaskuntza,” through the Chair to the UNLP Library on its Facebook page.
According to Jose Joaquin Saldias, the Chair’s director, “The catalogue is comprised of 65 pages of material that is available to researchers and specialists. I feel it is important to stress that the Central Library at the UNLP is the only one in the country that has an area specialized in Basque topics.”
On this its 27th anniversary, references of Basque culture and politics from Euskal Herria and Argentina will participate in the anniversary festivities with video greetings. You can see them here.
