The mass that Eusko Etxea in Caracas organizes every first Sunday of the month at its clubhouse at El Paraiso will take place at 11am this coming Sunday, December 1st in memory of Koldo Meabe, Maite Uzkanga de Sorozabal and Marilo Bilbao, who passed away during the month of November in Chirgua, Euskadi and Caracas respectively. With Christmas coming the Basque-Venezuelan community in Bilbao will have the chance to enjoy traditional hallacas, made by Adriana and Mikel.

Caracas, Venezuela.  From the Basque Club in the Venezuelan capital, Pedro Arriaga explains via Jazoera that the traditional monthly mass will be celebrated this Sunday at 11am in memory of:

-Maite Uzkanga de Sorozabal, who passed away in Euskadi on November 20, 2013, spouse of Sabin Sorozabal and mother of Itxaro and Ainara Sorozabal.  Sister of Begoña Uzkanga, married to Jose Antonio Elguezabal, member of the Caracas Basque club.  Among other things she was a great collaborator of the Ikastola, she was 84 years old.

-Marilo Bilbao, passed away in Caracas on November 20th as well, spouse of Jose Bilbao (GB), a great pilotari, and mother of Jon Bilbao, member of the Caracas Basque club.

-Koldo Meabe, died on November 12, 2013 in Chirgua, in the state of Carabobo, Venezuela at 65 years of age.  Brother of Begoña Meabe, married to Javier Odriozola (GB).  Queen of Sports.  From Euskadi, Amaya Zenarutzabeitia remembers him as Begoña’s brother and “Ainara’s, Iker’s and Igor’s uncle.  He died suddenly when he was pruning a tree in Chirgua, apparently from a myocardial infarction.”

HALLACAS IN EUSKADI

Amaya Zenarutzabeitia also explains from Euskadi that there is a possibility to get in Bilbao some traditional Caraqueñan 'hallacas'.

“Since Christmas isn’t Christmas for Venezuelans without Hallacas here they are Adriana and Mikel with our star Christmas dish.  Christmas without hallacas is inconceivable in Venezuela, and if a Venezuelan finds himself elsewhere, in faraway lands he will dream about them, the Basque-Venezuelans that are at home in Euzkadi will miss them as well.  Let’s hope that there will plenty of tasty hallacas for everyone this Christmas!”

“This year they will arrive ahead of time, since they have been made at various times depending on the request.  I am sending you the information in the attached document (see pjoto).  For those who have never tried one, I suggest that this year you try them because they are truly very good.”

Please order on time.
