The Basketball team at the Necochea Basque Club achieved a new victory as winner of the Apertura Tournament

The victory in theU21 category is added to the recently achieved U15 win and the mini at this same competition.  Remember that the Euzko Etxea in Necochea has a number of sports activities including basketball, with boys and girls teams, organized by age, and participates in tournaments both locally and regionally.

Necochea, Argentina.   Basketball is one of the main sporting events at the Euzko Etxea, not only in the number of participants, but also in the quality of play.  Dozens of children come to the club to be part of the “Centro Basko” team that has now excelled at different levels.

With green, white and red t-shirts, the “Centro Basko” team has both girls and boys teams.

“In the case of the girls, they played at the local Apertura tournament and also at Regionals in Zone four, facing teams from Benito Juarez and Maipu, among others,” Javier Iturralde, member of the club’s board of directors and its subcommittee on Basketball explained to EuskalKultura.com. “Right now they are getting ready for the Provincial Club Tournament at our club.  This event includes four categories Mini, U13, U15 and U17 and is coached by Gaston Galassi,” he said.

In regards to boys basketball, Iturralde explained that the boys at the club “are also part of a local league where they recently won the Apertura Championships for the fourth year in a row in the U21 category.  This victory is added to other recent wins in the U15 and Mini categories.  U13 and U17 will also compete soon and also include a team from the club.”

Boys categories include: pre-school, pre-mini, mini, U13, U15, U17, U21 and First and are coached by Gastón Galassi, Federico de Agostini and Fernando Perales.

“Besides the local tournament, boys Basketball is also played simultaneously in all categories in the Tres Arroyos League, as a way increase the number of games a year, and experience for the players.  They also participate in a third competition, the Provincial League called, Junior. To get an idea of the dimension of the activity, when taking into account trips made, more than once to each place to compete, to date they have traveled more than 10,000 kilometers,” Iturralde added.

With regard to the relationship between sports and the Euskal Etxea, the club spokesperson emphasizes that sports are integrated into the reality of the club, not only because children and youth that play are club members, but also because practice has become a gateway to other activities at the Euskal Etxea.  “Currently some players also are dantzaris,” Iturralde. said.
