Buenos Aires, Argentina. The contest organized by the Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea-Centro Vasco Francés as part of its 124th anniversary already has winners. Norma Rios, referent of the club’s subcommittee told Euskalkultura.eus that “there were a lot of participants locally and internationally and we received texts from various parts of Argentina but also from the Basque Country, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Spain, Mexico Venezuela, the US, Ecuador and Bolivia.

The three winners were:

  • First place went to “El anillo de la reina,” (The Queen’s Ring) by Nieves E. Morán Diez (Buenos Aires)
  • Second place went to “Mis orígenes,” (My Origins) by Itziar Laborda Otaduy (Bilbao)
  • Third place went to “Las nietas del contrabandista,”(The Smuggler’s Grandchildren) by Maria Valeria Aramburu (Tandil)

The jury comprised by translator Rosa Misciagna, engineer Carlos Bordagaray and Professor Mikel Ezkerro also awarded the following with special mentions. Those recipients follow:

  • ‘Historia de una fotografía. Memorias de un gudari’, (Story of a Photograph, Memories of a Gudari) by Xabier Irujo (Reno)
  • ‘Aquel estío de 1910’, (That Summer of 1910) by Rubén M. Camenforte (Barcelona)
  • ‘Miren’, by Francisco Javier Conejo Hidalgo (Sestao)
  • ‘Raíces’, (Roots) by Antonio A. Pereyra (Necochea)
  • ‘En un rincón mágico’, (In a Magic Corner) by Renée A. D. Escape (Las Heras, Mendoza)¡
  • ‘Esneona y el cuentero’, (Esneona and the Storyteller) by Maximiliano Nicolás Sacristán (Gral. Rodríguez)
  • ‘Control aduanero’, (Customs Control) by Alberto Irigoyen Artetxe (Montevideo)
  • ‘Paskal Urrutia’, by Luciana Marcela Lucero (Salta)
  • ‘Mari’, Agustín Tomás Torres (Comodoro Rivadavia)
  • ‘Una quimera’, (A Chimera) by Adolfo Zabalza (Pergamino)
  • ‘Encuentros y desencuentros en época de guerra’, (Encounters and Disagreements in Times of War) by María del Rosario Barberena Aleman (Azul)
  • ‘De regreso en Armendaritze’, (Back from Armendaritze) by María Fernanda Jaureguiberry (Banfield)
  • ‘El cuento de los dos hermanos’, (The Story of Two Brothers) by Juan Carlos Lespada (Mar del Plata)
  • ‘El abismo’, (The Abyss) by Alicia Igarzabal (Rosario)

The awards ceremony will take place at the headquarters of the Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea on Saturday October 19th at 6:30pm.

The club would like to thank everyone who sent in their works and will hold another contest next year as part of its 125th anniversary.
