With the support of more than 200 people, the Basque club in Havana held its 2014 General Assembly.  The meeting paid tribute to some of its most dedicated members and the members’ excitement was palpable, despite the difficulties that they are facing to realize their dream of their own clubhouse.

Havana, Cuba.   The Basque club in Havana, The Basque Navarran Charitable Association celebrated its 2014 General Assembly last Sunday, on December 14, with a full house, in a room at the Federation of Associations of Asturias in Cuba. The event gathered more than 200 members of the entity.  Renato Garcia Egusquiza, club president showed his satisfaction of the response and the interest shown to EuskalKultura.com as this shows that the club is “moving forward and is known among the many Basque clubs in the world.”

It was decided at the Genearal Assemby that one of the main objectives will be to obtain a clubhouse. For now it has been difficult due to their lack of resources.  The meeting also served to recognize and pay tribute for the outstanding contributions of some members, who were presented certificates of recognition for their work at the club.  Those recognized were: Jose Miguel Arrugaeta, Josu Abrisketa, Aitor Barinagarrementeria; and Lenier Landa, who was recently accepted into the club but who is very involved in its workings.

Other recognition went to the Vasco-Navarra Soccer Club, the association’s team that took first place in the Third Division Provincial tournament and so automatically passed to the second division.  The garment factory of Turkey Kazova was also thanked for making the team’s uniforms.

Finally, the club also granted honorary membership to Ursula Casagrande, a friend of the entity who, even though is not Basque, has collaborated intensively with them.

Jagoba Albillos Taracena, Advisor from the Office of the General Deputy of Gipuzkoa was also in Attendance. He spoke to the board of directors on a number of topics and possibilities for collaboration.
