As every year, Basque clubs around the world are preparing to celebrate Aberri Eguna. In many of the euskal etxeak celebration of the Day of the Basque Homeland will take place on Sunday March 31, although in some cases, especially in Argentina and Chile it is pushed back a week due to vacations. In others, as in Necochea, celebrations begin this Friday.

Donostia-San Sebastian. The Euzko Etxea in Necochea, Argentina, has prepared a complete program of activities to celebrate Aberri Eguna this weekend.  The events will begin on Friday with a Mus tournament.  On Saturday, the club will celebrate a race through the streets of the city, in support of Korrika 18, and that night, there will be a dinner and a dance in honor of the teacher exchanged as part of the Hator Hona 2013 program.

The main activities will take place on Sunday as in other years.  The day will begin with mass followed by a tribute to the sapling of the Tree of Gernika and drinks at the clubhouse.

Another Basque club with a long tradition of celebrating Aberri Eguna is the Eusko Etxea in Caracas in Venezuela that will once again gather numerous members and friends at its clubhouse.  The day will begin at 11:00 with mass, after singing the hymns of Venezuela and the Basque Country, Aurresku will be performed followed by placing a wreath at the monument of the gudari.  There will be pilota matches at noon at the fronton and dinner will be served at 3pm in the main hall.

The London Basque Society will also celebrate Aberri Eguna on Sunday.  The festivities will begin at noon with a Basque beer tasting at the pub “On the Park,” in London Fields park.  At noon, members and friends will gather for a meal at Baxter’s Court.

In New York, the Euzko Etxea has organized a very special Aberri Eguna this Sunday as part of its Centennial celebration.  The club will pay tribute to the club’s presidents and will also hold a zanpatzar parade in McCarren Park.  Later, there will be mass at the clubhouse followed by dinner for members and friends.

In Madrid, the Euskal Etxea will celebrate its Aberri Eguna meal at the Sagardi restaurant, and on the other side of the world the Gure Txoko club in Sydney will do the same with a picnic at Centennial Park.  Finally, we note that the Zazpiak Bat Basque club in Vancouver, Canada has pushed back its celebration until April 6, when they will celebrate a meal at the Mayview Circle in Burnaby.
