Euskal etxeas and universities around the world participate in the Classics Reading in Basque tomorrow at the Arriaga Theater

Bilbao, Bizkaia. Postponed fron June due to the pandemic, the Continuous Classics Reading in Basque organized annually by the Euskaltegi, Bilbo Zaharra, in collaboration with Bilbao City Hall, and the Provincial Government of Bizkaia and Laboral Kutxa Bank, will take place tomorrow, November 17th beginning at 8:00 local time.

In this its thirteenth edition, the genre chosen by the organization this year is children’s an youth literature and the passes to be read are stories by the Gipuzkoan writer, Mariasun Landa.  The event will take place at the Arriaga Antzokia (Arriaga Theater) with all required health and safety measures in place.  It will begin with Mariasun Landa herself reading the first lines and will be followed by some 200 participants, a large number of which from the Diaspora.

Thanks to the Etxepare Basque institute, Basque speakers from all over the world will once again join in on the activity, always virtually and representing Basque clubs, federations and various universities, and lectureships around the world.  The list of participants follows:

The event will also be attended by the Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto; the Deputy of Euskera, Culture and Sports from the Provincial Government of Bizkaia, Lorea Bilbao; the Minister of Culture and Linguistic Policy from the Basque Government, Bingen Zupiria, and the President of Euskaltzaindia, the Academy of the Basque Language, Andres Urrutia.  The Etxepare Basque Institute will be represented by its director, Irene Larraza and Director of the Euskara Munduan Program, Kinku Zinkunegi.
