Chivilcoy, Argentina. After strong restrictive measures and a constant vaccination campaign that has already reached the age range of those over 40, some Basque institutions in the province of Buenos Aires see the possibility of returning to in person events as a not-too-distant dream.  This is the case of the Beti Aurrera Basque Club in Chivilcoy, which, in accordance with health safety regulations has hosted dance rehearsals for its older dancers since the midle of this month.

One of the group’s first events after getting together for the first time was to perform an Aurresku to the Argentine flag on its day.  Flag Day in Argentina is June 20th, the date when its creator, Manuel Belgrano, died in 1820.

Along with this news, Beti Aurrera also announced sadly, but with great excitement that Basque classes will resume after the death of their first club teacher, Marta Invernoz, last year who died of COVID-19.  Classes will now be taught by Adriana Irrazabal Garmendia.

The return to the Basque club will be gradual.  The board is working hard to contact members on social media.  Cooking meetings of “Amalur,” will continue virtually along with film and dance lessons with Aiko Eskola online.

The local Basque club also reminds the community that September 7th is the last day to participate in the 10th edition of its literary contest The Tree of Gernika and recommends not leaving it until the last minute writing and submitting your originals, as well as pass the word about the contest to those around you.
