Basque-Argentinean cook and writer Marita Echave is touring Argentinean Basque clubs presenting her book “Basque Rural Cooking,” a volume on the Basque cuisine she inherited and practiced in the Basque atmosphere she knew while growing up in rural Argentina. She has already visited and presented the book in ten Basque clubs, but there are still clubhouses to visit and commitments to fulfill. On March 16, she presented it in Cordoba at an event organized by the Gerora Association. Also present were the group Baietz and the Txotx! Basque dancers.

Cordoba, Argentina.  The book “Basque Rural Cooking,” is the extremely successful result of Basque club kitchens in Argentina.  Its author, Marita Echave, has been invited to cook and present her book in more than 10 Basque clubs within the country.

The book’s presentations are always interesting and practical since they all follow this format: Marita explains how to make the recipes that appear in her book, while preparing them for some diners.  In the case of the presentation at the Juan Griego restaurant in Cordoba, it went a little differently.  “Omar Tamargo Bazterrica, chef and owner of the restaurant, prepared the recipes from the book, giving them a personal gourmet touch and presenting them beautifully when it was time to eat,” Echave told EuskalKultura.com.

Besides the presentation, they also took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the flavors of this type of Basque cuisine.  The audience present at the Juan Griego was also able to enjoy a quality show.  Entertainment was provided by local Basque artists, including good dance and music:  The music of Baietz was played during dinner and between courses, to make the wait more bearable, and members of Txotx! also performed typical dances to the delight of those present.

Marita Echave explained that “It was a very nice get-together with a large number of women and men of Basque descent who shared exquisite dishes, and of course in the wonderful company of Elba Mocoroa, the alma mater of Gerora.  The flavors of the farm mixed with the aroma of txakoli, various red wines and champagne with traditional Basque cake.  Music and dance entertained everyone during the courses and the anecdotes and Basque family memories with which we were raised, and from which we have received love, values and an example of will and effort and the undeniable genetic duty that is found at each meeting,” summarized the author.
