Cañuelas, Argentina. Every year this is one of the dates marked in red on the calendars of young dantzaris in Argentina. It could have been a huge celebration as the event marks its 15th anniversary this year.  However, “due to the health situation that still has not normalized in the city, nor the country,” the Denak Bat Basque Club in Cañuelas has decided not to carry out its traditional Dantzari Gathering on Aberri Eguna.  Last year they were able to hold it virtually, making this event one of the first not in person events in the nation.

This year’s celebration of the Day of the Basque Homeland in Cañuelas will be a smaller event, “in regards to what we are allowed at the Basque club and following the local protocols,” Veronica Zulaica, club president, told EuskalKultura.eus.

2021 Activities

In looking planned events for 2021, and as something new, the club will offer a series of Awareness-Raising Workshops in Euskera. The workshops will be on music, art, theater, literature and history, and will be taught by Cecilia Olivera, local teacher in training in the Euskara Munduan Program.  In the coming weeks, they will also return to in person choir rehearsals.

At the same time, and taking advantage of the possibility of holding outdoor activities, Denak Bat held an “intervention” of dances in the Street last Friday night on the 26th.  A group of dantzaris danced a Fandango, Chacarera, and a Kalejira, in downtown to the surprise and joy of the passersby.
