The Associazione Culturale Euskara and the Department of Basque Language and Culture at the UPTER University in Rome continue introducing the Basque culture in the Italian capital. The day after tomorrow they are offering a poetry reading by writer Joseba Sarrionandia translated into Italian as part of the “Aperitivo Basco” (Basque aperitif) that they celebrate every month at the bookstore/café Giufa. Additionally as part of this project of dissemination, both entities have published online the results of the Radiodramma project.

Rome, Italy.  The Associazione Culturale Euskara (ACE) and the Department of Basque Language and Culture at the UPTER University in Rome continue its commitment this year to introducing and sharing the Basque culture with the Italians. In this way, they will resume activities, after the holidays, with the usual “Aperitivo Basco” that they celebrate at the café-bookstore Giufà at the end of every month. Starting at seven in the evening, anyone who attends will be able to hear Joseba Sarrionandia’s poems translated into Italian by members of the ACE and the Department of Euskara at UPTER.

Additionally, during this month both entities have included new content on their websites, in hopes of sharing their activities with the public.  “Developing cultural activities has twice the value.  While you create the activity, the culture is spread, providing knowledge and intense moments.  But the cultural activity doesn’t stop there.  It can echo for a long time, reaching people who weren’t at the event in person,” explains the Italian euskaltzales.

With this hope, both entities have published on their website: www.euskara.it some of the projects that they have carried out to date. One of the most recent is the radio laboratory Radiodramma, through which they managed to get some Italians to do a program in Basque (as well as Italian).

You can download both programs: Almost Bluethe Italian version as well as Ilun, ia ia ilun the Basque one. Along with these you can also download interviews about projects that both have carried out on Radio 3 (RAI), as a podcast. The program is 50 minutes long and both entities talk about their work, the Radiodramma project as well as previous ones like Euskanta.
