There were two major gastronomic events in Rosario, Argentina in May, and both of them provided the flavors of Euskal Herria thanks to the participation of local chef Itziar Aguirre.  At the Gastronomic Week she taught an open class about pintxos at the Zazpirak Bat Basque Club Restaurant.  At the Street Food event, on Oroño Boulevard, she also attended with a stand.  In June there will be more activities, a third edition of Street Food and a wine tasting event at the restaurant on Monday the 12th.

Rosario, Argentina.   If Argentina is the country in the Diaspora with the most Basque descendants, this presence has to include gastronomy.  That is why world-class Basque cooking isn’t only enjoyed at restaurants in Euskal Herria, but also in restaurants on this side of the ocean where without losing local color, the tradition is honored along with keeping up with culinary news from the Basque Country.

At the 7th edition of Gastronomic Week in Rosario, held May 14-21, the Basque-Argentine chef offered her cooking from the kitchen at Zazpirak Bat where she taught an open class on pintxos and tapas.  She also prepared a menu at Zazpi all week long at a promotional price that included pintxos, Bizkaina of the Sea with peppers and potatoes, and goxua for dessert.

Also at the Gastronomic Week, the city of Rosario was the site of the 9th edition of Street Food.  The gastronomic festival took place on the Oroño Boulevard, with more than 30 kitchens outside.  Among the variety of options, the club provided its traditional specialties including tortilla, bokatas with txistorra, pintxos and langoustine soup, along with grilled squid.

June is also busy

Opportunities at the club’s restaurant, as well as in public will also continue in June.  Not only this, but Itziar Aguirre told EuskalKultura.com that Street Food will be held six times this year and the third edition of 2017 will take place in June.  So, Zazpirak Bat will continue with their master classes and the monthly wine tastings:  “These are four-step menus married with a variety of wines from prestigious wineries,” she explained.  She also announced that Monday, June 12th, the event will be sponsored by Vinos Rutini from the La Rural Bodega.

The well-known chef would also like to especially thank her sponsors for, “supporting Basque cooking, at each one of these events.” Her sponsors include Sol real, kitchen equipment; Pescaderia Rosario, for excellent fresh fishes; and Oliovita, extra virgin olive oil.
