The Beti Alai dantzaris landed in the Basque Country on July 25, and since that moment it has been nothing but activity, joy and emotion.  They barely had arrived when they danced for the audience at the Paella contest in Getxo, and their second performance today is in Zubieta.  The rest of the tour includes performances in Gorliz, and Hendaia.  In the meantime, the group is taking advantage of its stay to visit the main city and significant places in the Basque Country.

Amoroto, Bizkaia.   The dantzaris and musicians belonging to the Denak Bat Basque Club in Mar del Plata are currently in the Basque Country enjoying the land of their ancestors, but above all living an old dream: performing dances in the Basque Country that they learned and practices for so many years at their club in Mar del Plata.

Their tour include five performances that began on July 25 in Getxo, at the traditional Paella Contest festival.  There the dancers form Argentina presented Ezpata Dantza with live music, surprising the audience with their skill: “They wouldn’t have known that we were from Argentina if they hadn’t heard our accent,” they said proudly.

In regards to their upcoming performances:

-July 31, 19hs, in Zubieta;
-August 5, 11am, in Gorliz;
-August 8, 18:30hs, in Hendaia, along with local group, Akelarre;
-August 9 in the afternoon in Hendaia, circle dances in the main plaza.

Excursions and Visits

Besides performing in the Basque Country, the dancers are also taking advantage of their stay to tour and get to know significant places in the land of their ancestors.  For this, they are counting on the support of the Uzturre Munduan program.  As Ignacio Oreja, dance group director explained to EuskalKultura.com, “Uzturre Munduan is a program that was created with the intention of creating bridges between Basques all around the world; and in its first stages it is working with Basque clubs in Argentina. Koldo Bilbao is the president of the Cultural Association Uzturre Gazte Bilgunea and is who put us in contact with all of the town halls, Lehendakaritza and the parliament, the Guggenheim and everywhere we will visit in the coming days.

“I do” in Mundaka

Without a doubt the best news that has come to us from Mar del Plata and the Basque Country is that of a wedding.  Dantzaris from Beti Alai Amaia Mujica Vicente and Valentin Cruz Ortigosa, who met in the Basque club, will say “I do” in the Basque Country in front of the Bay of Biscay, surrounded by everything they crave and pay tribute to through their dances.  The ceremony will take place on Saturday in the Santa Katalina hermitage in Mundaka.  Zorion bero-beroak, bikote!
