At the end of 2017, the club’s board of directors announced the plan for 2018.  The club will resume its activities in March and will have one its most important events of the year in September, as part of the Festival of Collectivities.  But right now the biggest challenge for the local Basques will have to do with the possibility of having their own space.  In March the club will begin building its clubhouse on land loaned them by the city.

Marcos Paz, Argentina.   With a profile and sure step, the Zuhaitzaren Herria Basque Club in Marcos Paz, in the province of Buenos Aires, represents the local Basque community since its foundation in 1999.

For the coming year, and in hopes of further strengthening the institutions, the club will begin construction on its clubhouse on land located on Ferrari and Rivadavia Streets, lent to them by the city.  According to Martin Garitonandia, “Mayor Ricardo Curuchet collaborates with intermediate associations, and if we use the space well they will renew the loan and maybe even allow us to find a better place.”

The board led by Fernando Garitonandia announced the 2018 program along with this good news.  In April, the club will have a luncheon for members and friends.  The event will take place at the local Agrotecnica School.  In May they will hold an assembly for members; in September the club will organized Basque Week with the participation of other invited clubs and entities.  In November they will have a stand at the Festival of Collectivities and in December, Zuhaitzaren Herria will organize a gathering to celebrate the end of the year.

2017 Activities

In 2017, the club carried out a program of activities that concluded in mid-December with the end of year dinner.  There, and with the participation of Mayor Ricardo Curuchet, the loan was singed.  Club members also sang in Basque.

From November 10-12, the local Basques attended the Festival of Collectivities with a cultural stand that provided typical dishes and food, like txistorra, and they also held a bota tournament. Club members also participated in activities organized by other Basque clubs, for example, accompanying Denak Bat in Cañuelas and Zazpirak Bat in Gral. Las Herras.  In this video, we see local musicians attending a talk by Mikel Ezkerro in Gral. Las Heras.

One of the final activities of the year was the election of a new board of directors that follows:

-President: Fernando Garitonandia
-Vice-president: Andrea Echart

-Secretary: Marcela Barragán
-Treasurer: Joaquín Garitonandia
-Director: Martín Garitonandia
