Buenos Aires, Argentina. The project put together in Argentina by film enthusiast Carlos Gabilondo has reached its 10th anniversary in 2020 and wants to celebrate in all the Basque clubs that it has visited over the years and “it was so well-received.” It has already set dates at some institutions and invites others who haven’t done so yet to contact them to be included in what will be a huge tour this year, in which he will project and present Basque club audiences new and old Basque film titles.

In a conversation with EuskalKultura.eus, Gabilondo let us know that he has some dates set including Itxaropen in Saladillo on March 20th and the Euzko Etxea in la Plata, (the first of five events will begin the first of April). “In large part the visits are confirmed but there are still some left to confirm.  In the case of the clubs in San Miguel, Chivilcoy, San Martin de los Andes, Cipolletti-Neuquen (Baskos de la Confluencia), Chacabuco or Arrecifes…to mention a few.”

Besides returning to clubs he has already visited, Gabilondo is also open to the possibility of adding other institutions and new cities; in fact he already has a visit planed to the city of Cinco Saltos in the province of Rio Negro where in collaboration with the Municipal Gender Secretary he will show allusive and thematic films.

Euskaltzaleak, the project’s birthplace

During these ten years, Gabilondo has traveled across the country and the first screenings that he did were in Buenos Aires at Euskaltzaleak.  “There I didn’t just find a physical space to organize the functions, but also and above all enough support and encouragement in order to get the program going which until then was unheard of,” Gabilondo told us.

This is why the celebration will be a special one at the Euskaltegi where he will show a film every month, from March to December. Gabilondo explained that he would like to pay tribute to those members of the board of directors of the Euskaltegi that “fervently supported the project,”
