This Sunday, June 8th the Toki Eder Basque Club in Jose C. Paz, in the province of Buenos Aires, will celebrate its 18th Anniversary. Lunch will take place at the Altube Club and will include local Mayor Carlos Urquiaga among their invited guests. As part of the festivities, the community will participate in the Gure Esku Dago initiative and will film a video of the event. The Basque club has also informed us that the 2014 World Cup in Brazil can be seen at the clubhouse. The proceeds from the bar will go to help pay expenses for dantzaris to attend the National Basque Week this year in La Plata.

Jose C. Paz, Argentina. Invited by the Basque club, many members and friends will accompany the Basques in Jose C. Paz in their 18th anniversary celebration.  Lunch, that will include paella, will take place at the Altube Club where not only local officials will gather but representatives of various institutions in the city, as well as Marta Abarrategui, representing FEVA, and members of Basque clubs in the area.  Entertainment will be provided by club dancers, who with members of Gure Talde Alaia will perform typical dances from the Basque Country.

The event also coincides with the Human Chain between Durango and Iruña-Pamplona, in the Basque Country, so the community in Jose C. Paz will join in at a distance.  “The idea is to join hands and film a message that will alter be sent to Euskal Herria,” explains Maria Angeles Oñederra, club member to EuskalKultura.com.  The event will take place on June 8th at 12:30pm.

Brazil 2014 at the Toki Eder

Regarding other activities, already immersed in the soccer climate that Argentina has enjoyed for a couple of weeks, the Toki Eder has a nice idea for June and July.  Youth from Gure Talde Alaia will show World Cup games, on the big screen.  During the program, they will provide snacks.  “Proceeds from the bar will be used for dancers’ expenses to participate in this year’s Semana Nacional Vasca in La Plata,” said Oñederra.

Meanwhile, the club will continue its usual activities including Basque dance and Euskera classes, as well as children’s workshops in art, literature, gastronomy and yoga classes.  Once the World Cup is over, they will also resume their Cinema Series presented by Carlos Gabilondo.
