Salto, Uruguay. The city of Salto, in Uruguay, and the local Basque club as principal promotor, have organized “Harriague Week,” and the “Ardo Festa,” in conjunction of the bicentennial of the birth of Pascual Harriague, founder of the Bodega by the same name and birthplace of the Tannat strain that is the symbol of Uruguay.  The festivities will take place April 8-14. The program was presented yesterday at a press conference at the local Cordoba Palace.

The second edition of “Harriague Week,” enjoys the sponsorship of Cenur-Litoral Norte, the University of the Republic of Uruguay, the University of the Basque Country and the city of Salto, among other institutions.  The program is as follows:

Monday, April 8
-19hs, Presentation of the Management Commission of the Bodega Harriague
-20hs, Presentation of the commemorative postage stamp, and hanging of the commemorative plaque.  Performance by the municipal band. Place: Bodega Harriague.

Tuesday, April 9
-21hs: Paleta Championship “Harriague Bicentennial Trophy” at the Circulo Sportivo.

Wednesday, April 10
-18:30hs, Olive oil tasting. Talk “Olive Production in the Region" by Asolur.

Thursday, April 11
-20:30hs, Talk “Harriague at the Hiram School. Constructors of New Times.” Place: Escuela Hiram.

Friday, April 12
-18hs: Talk by Inavi: “Two-Hundred Years since his Birth, Pascual Harriague, Hero of the Tanat in Uruguay”
-18:30hs, Talk “The Harriague Legacy” (Paula Durán)
-19:30hs, Exhibit of paintings of Basque farmhouses, book presentation of They were Coming by Carlos Olaizola, and Paul, an Immigrant by Juan Manuel Bartaburu. Cocktail at the Euskal Etxea. Place: Mercado 18 de Julio.

Saturday, April 13
-9hs: 6K race “Pioneer Korrika”. Sokatira
-20hs: Ardo Festa. Wine and olive oil tastings. Performance by the Gazte Lurra Basque dancers from Concordia.  Performance by the Saltoko Abesbatza, club choir. Expo fair and food trucks. Place: Bodega Harriague.

Sunday, April 14
-10hs: Tributes at the Harriague pantheon. Tours of the wineries and vineyards.
