Last Saturday the New England Basque Club, formerly known as the Rhode Island Basque Club, celebrated one of its main events, the Txitxiburduntzi festival. The event gathered one hundred members and friends from Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut, along with invited guests who came all the way from sunny Florida. The festival took place at Riki Lasa’s farm, a former Jai Alai player in West Suffield. The program of events included rural sports demonstrations like aizkolaris and harrijasotzailes. Boston, MA.  The Txitxiburduntzi Festival (A kind of Basque BBQ) at the New England Basque club was once again a great success with more than 100 attending who enjoyed a day at Riki Lasa’s farm.  Many in attendance, as well as the host, are former professional Jai Alai players who remained in the area after retiring.  Among the participants were friends from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut and some also came from Florida.

One of the attractions of the event is the Pork BBQ prepared by Patxi Gandiaga, as well as watching the rural sports demonstrations.  There were aizkolaris, and a txinga competition, as well as harrijasotzailes.  The professionals taught members and friends that wanted to try how to lift the weights.
