Donostia-San Sebastian.  The Mikel Laboa Chair at the University of the Basque Country has created a contest aimed at young artists, under the age of 35, to create a song in Basque, I honor of the mythic singer from Donostia Mikel Laboa.  The theme of this first edition is Doinua hitz, hitza doinu.

According to the Chair, each artist may submit one song, in whatever style in Basque.  The theme needs to be original and inedited, and should be submitted on a CD in a closed envelope that includes all the personal data of the participant including a copy of his/her ID, address, email and telephone.  The title of the song should be on the outside.

Organizers let us know that the following criteria will be judged: the musical level of the melody, the poetic level of the text and appropriate conjunction between the two – melody and lyrics.
