The Center for Basque Studies presents Gabriel Aresti’s masterworks and Oteiza's Selected Writings in English

The Center for Basque Studies Press proudly announced the publication of two of Gabriel Aresti’s masterworks Maldan behera (1959) and Harri eta herri (1964) translated into English by Amaia Gabantxo, entitled, Downhill and Rock & Core in its latest Basque Books Bulletin.  This work, featuring “the great modern Basque poet,” is the latest installment in the Center’s Basque Classics in Translation Series funded by the Provincial Government of Bizkaia.  The bulletin also included Oteiza’s Selected Writings edited by Joseba Zulaika from the press’s catalogue. 

Reno, NV.   The Center for Basque Studies Press is always striving to provide the latest in Basque literary production to its English speaking audience.  As part of this effort, the Press has begun to send monthly electronic newsletters in hopes in making readers aware of its latest publications. 

This month’s featured publication are Gabriel Aresti’s Maldan behera and Harri eta herri translated into English by Amaia Gabantxo.  These two works “were foundations of modern Basque literature and influenced pride in Basque language, culture, and expression for generations of Basques.” For more information on the book or to purchase a copy click here.  Hardcover copies will also be available soon.

The other title featured this month is Oteiza’s Selected Writings edited by Joseba Zulaika.  This title, published by the Center in 2004, is part of the Occasional Papers Series and presents a portion of his work to the English-speaking world as “a key book for those readers seeking to understand the roots of contemporary Basque cultural expression.”  To purchase this book click here
