Bilbao, Bizkaia.  Members of the Basque Diaspora in Venezuela and descendants born there who currently reside in Euskal Herria will have a chance to get together and renew friendships on April 12th in Galdakao at the XIX of this annual Basque-Venezuelan Get-Together.  Nearly one hundred people are expected to attend, members of a community that has continued to stay in touch despite the distance between the Basque Country and Venezuela.

This year the get-together will take place at a different locale.  According to organizers, “This year, given the situation in our dear Venezuela, it seemed that the best tribute to our country is to eat cooking from there,” that is why the event will take place in a restaurant in Galdakao that is run by a Venezuelan family in the middle of this Bizkaian town.

The event will begin at noon with a traditional mass in memory of those who have passed away this year (time and place to be confirmed).  Mass will be followed by lunch around 3pm.  The proposed menu includes: appetizers - arepitas with cheese and/or butter, empanadas, quail eggs; main course, baked ham with chicken salad and bread and ham and for dessert, an authentic quesillo, like before and as always drinks and coffee.  Price of the meal is 26 Euros per person.
