As every year, there will again be a film series this year at the Basque club in Posadas in the Argentinean province of Misiones. Organized by the local Basque club, activities will take place in the Public Library in Posadas every Monday during the month of June. The festival will begin today and will be inaugurated by Carlos Gabilondo, cinephile from Buenos Aires, who will give a talk on the history of Basque film. In another forum, Gabilondo will present La Pelota Vasca as part of the 40th anniversary of the University in Misiones.

Posadas, Argentina.  The Basque Film Series, which is open to the public, will begin today organized by the Euskal Jatorri Basque club in Posadas.  This year the event has two goals: on the one hand it hopes to publicize Basque cinematography in one of the main cities in Argentinean Mesopotamia, and on the other, make a contribution to the day-to-day work done at the local public library.  “Euskal Jatorri would like to recognize the public library in Posadas in this its 100th year – ‘Posadas known and valued for its constant contribution to the culture,’ –allocates June for a Basque Film Series that is open to the community,” according to Basque club sources.

As part of this recognition, a special collaborator has been invited to present the Series.  Professor Carlos Gabilondo will open the event today with a talk entitled, “The Trajectory of Basque Film.”  During his presentation that includes a lot of material, Gabilondo will outline the history of Basque cinema from 1895-2013.

The program that will run the entire month of June follows:

-Monday June 3: Talk “Trajectory of Basque Cinema,” by Carlos Gabilondo
-Monday June 10: 27 Hours by Montxo Armendariz.  Professor Gabilondo will lead the discussion after the show.
-Monday June 17: 80 egunean (In 80 Days), by Jose Mari Goenaga and Jon Garaño
-Monday June 24: Alas de Mariposa (Wings of the Butterfly) by Juanma Bajo Ulloa.

Euskal Jatorri and the Anniversary of the University of Misiones

During his stay in Posadas, Professor Gabilondo will also participate in an event organized as part of the 40th anniversary festivities of the National University of Misiones.  Gabilondo, invited by the Basque club, will be in charge of presenting the film La Pelota Vasca – La piel contra la piedra (Basque Pelota – Hide against the Stone) and moderate the debate to follow the show.  The documentary by Julio Medem will be shown on June 6 at 18:00 in the Magna Room at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University (Tucuman 1946); admission is free and open to the public.
