Santiago Basque club’s magazine Berriketari reports on the meeting of Basque-Chileans in Donostia

The last issue of Berriketari, Santiago’s Basque club online magazine, includes news about September and October activities in the Basque-Chilean community on both sides of the Atlantic. Besides reporting Basque club news, this time the newsletter also included information on the meeting in Donostia of Chileans living in Euskal Herria. The meeting took place on September 18 and was attended by the Chilean Consul in Bilbao, Iratxe de Madariaga, and the goalie from Real Sociedad, Claudio Bravo, among others.

Santiago, Chile.  The digital newsletter of the Eusko Etxea in Santiago, Chile, Berriketari reported in its last issue about a meeting of Basque-Chileans, and Chileans residing in Euskal Herria.  It took place in Donostia on September 18 with one attendee, Martin Ayçaguer, reporting what happened there.  Ayçaguer was one of the promoters of such meetings that were previously held in Zugarramurdi, Navarre. 

The event in Donostia took place at the Ametzagaña hotel and was attended by Iratxe de Madariaga, Chilean Consul in Bilbao and Claudio Bravo, goalie for Real Sociedad as well as member of the Chilean selection.  The meeting included entertainment provided by the musicians an dancers opf “Chile Lindo” from Bilbao, as well as the essential aperitif pisco-sour followed by dinner.

In addition to this news, the newsletter also included a report on the Mikel Deuna festivities that took place on October 7 in Santiago.  The event began with mass celebrated by the Apostolic Nuncio in a church near the Basque club where the Basque club choir sang and the dance group, Itxaropen Gaztea, performed.   After mass there was a tribute at the sapling of the Tree of Gernika at the euskal etxea, followed by a meal and a dance.
