The latest publication by Cesar Arrondo is entitled, Hipolito Yrigoyen: the first Century of the Popular Sovereignty (1916-2016) and talks about the Basque roots of the Yrigoyen family and the road travelled by the leader of radicalism to get to the presidency, among other things. After its presentation at the national University of La Plata, Arrondo will present his work on November 1st at a committee at the UCR in the capital and again on Wednesday at the Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.   The first presentation of Hipolito Yrigoyen: the first Century of the Popular Sovereignty (1916-2016) took place at the National University of La Plata, with the support of the Chair of Free Thought “Ricardo Balbin” and “Hipolito Yrigoyen,” both of which are part of the college of law.

The book focuses on the figure of Hipolito Yrigoyen, one of the main references of the Radical Civic Union, on the hundredth anniversary of his first term as president.  In the words of Arrondo, “the beginning talks about the Basque origins of the Yrigoyen family, originally from Iparralde, more specifically from Bera.  In the second part, the focus is places on how he entered into politics, the foundation of the radical party, and about his arrival to the presidency.  Remember that the elections in 1916 were the first held after the Saenz Peña Law was passed that established the secret and obligatory (masculine) suffrage, reason why Hipoloto Yrigoyen was the first Argentine president chosen democratically,” the history professor explained.

To write Hipolito Yrigoyen: the first Century of the Popular Sovereignty (1916-2016), Arrondo worked with various bibliographical references and especially those from the El Dia newspaper in La Plata that tracked information about Yrigoyen’s presidential campaign and his victory celebrations.  “The text concludes with the assumption, not a managed development,” the author said.
