The Eskual Etxea in Paris is celebrating ten years in its headquarters of the Saint Ouen commune of the French capital city. To do so, it has organized a complete program of activities that will take place from the weekend of the 15th through the 23rd of this month. Events will begin next Friday, with the showing of the animated film Gartxot. Following, there will be workshops on Basque costumes and on Moroccan pastries, a concert by the group Berri Good, and the documentary Gazta Zati Bat, a bertso-afaria with Jon Maia and a photo exhibit by Igotz Ziarreta, the creator of the show’s poster, among other activities.

Paris, France.  The Eskual Etxea in Paris (PEE) has prepared an intense program of festivities to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its clubhouse in Saint Ouen, a commune that the Basque association has perfectly fit into and to which it contributes a lot as well.  The festivities will begin on Friday, November 15 with the screening of the feature-length animated film Gartxot.  The film will be shown in its original Basque version with French subtitles, starting at 7pm at the clubhouse.

The next day, Saturday, the association is proposing a day of cultural exchange with other communities in the area.  It will begin at 2pm with a workshop on costumes and a talk on carnival and Basque mythology, with the collaboration of the Perles & Pollens Association.  At the same time, there will also be a workshop on Moroccan pastries, with the Moroccan Cultural association.  Following there will be a workshop on musical instruments in the world.

This day of brotherhood and neighborhood cooperation will end with dinner with an international menu, accompanied by music from all over the world.   After 10pm, the group Berri Good will make everyone dance with a concert.

On Sunday, November 17, events will start with mass at Our Lady of the Rosary church in Saint Ouen at 10:30am.  At noon there will be an aperitif with dancing plaza dancing of jauzi dances at the Basque club.  The club will open its doors for lunch that will also include Basque entertainment (for reservations: 01 40 10 11 11).

Film, Bertsos and Photography

The party will then continue into the second weekend with activities that will begin on Friday the 22nd with the screening of the documentary Gazta Zati Bat also at the Basque club.  It will begin at 7pm and will be attended by the film’s director and bertsolari Jon Maia, who will talk about his work.  Afterwards, Jon Maia will then participate in a bertso-afaria that will end the day.

On Saturday, November 23, the group Etorkizuna will perform a dance exhibition at the Jean Jaures room in Saint Ouen starting at 9pm.

On another note, during the festivities (from November 16-23), there will be a photo exhibit by Igotz Ziarreta, creator of the 10th anniversary poster, at the Basque club.  Ziarreta has collaborated closely with the Barcelona Basque club during the last few years, and has developed a series of photos that reinterpret Basque themes with a modern perspective. \
