Paris will enjoy an intense Euskal Jaia this weekend with “Paris-Basque 2016”

This weekend the fronton, Txikito de Cambo area, in Paris will be the center for a big Basque festival thanks to the “Paris-Basque 2016” fair.  The program of activities is extensive and for all tastes, there will be Basque food, music, and dance, pilota, rural sports, children’s rugby and broadcasting of live matches of the European Championship, held in France. 

Paris, France.  Basque residing in Paris and anyone interested in getting to know and enjoying the Basque culture, have a date this weekend at the Txikito de Cambo Fronton, with the “Paris-Basque 2016” fair.  For another year, the event will gather the local Basque community, from members of the Pariseko Eskual Etxea to participants in the local pilota leagues and associations, and a handful of chefs and producers and vendors of Basque food and products, whose stands will provide an opportunity to taste and purchase several Basque delicacies.

Admission is free and anyone will be able to enjoy and participate in a large program of activities.  For starters, there will be pilota exhibitions, with men’s and women’s French championship matches, but also workshops for pilota beginners of all ages.

Culinary Challenges

One of the main attractions of the fair will be the food, with stands with products for purchase, the Basco Street Food, where nearly 33 chefs, winemakers and producers collaborate to provide a different menu every day.  In addition, at the “Chefs Challenge,” teams of cooks, athletes, and personalities will compete in cooking challenges, pilota and rural sports.

Rural sports will also be featured with an exhibition of harrijasotzailes, aizkolaris, txinga competitions and much more.  Basque dance will included thanks to the Erregetxopitak dance group and the Gazteria dance group from the Paris Eskual Etxea.  Entertainment will also be provided by the Txaranga Paris band and txalapartaris from the Hutsun Txalaparta Taldea.

Another sport is rugby, with workshops for beginners and activities for children.  In addition, and keeping in mind that France is hosting the Eurocopa this year, attendees will be able to watch the matches throughout the day on giant screens.
