Loreak, a film directed by Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga continues to break barriers and open new roads in Basque film being selected this morning as a Spanish candidate for the Oscars.  Now, this poetic film about loneliness and isolation, will participate in the selection among five films from around the world for the Best Foreign Language Film.

Donostia-San Sebastian.   The film Loreak by Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga has been selected this morning by the Spanish Film Academy to represent Spain at the Oscars that will take place on February 28, 2016 in Los Angeles.  This is the first step, but a huge achievement for Basque film being the first film in Basque to make it this far.

In this first selection Loreak competed against other pre-selected films for Spain: Magical Girl, by Carlos Vermut, and Felices 140, by Gracia Querejeta.

It will now travel to Hollywood as a candidate in the best Foreign Language Film category, and there it will compete against a selection of other best films this year from around the world.  In mid-December the US Academy of Film will announce its first preselection, and on January 14th the five finalists will be announced.  Zorionak eta Zorte on! (Congratulations and good luck!)
