Over the next few weeks the Necochea Basque club will offer an intense and wide range of proposals. Some tradition, like the celebration of St Ignatius and a tribute to the elder; and others that are newer, like a recital by singer Silvia Iriondo on July 26th at the Almodo Bar. The participation of youth on the Hator Hona program will also be included in all, as they arrive from Euskadi this Friday.

Necochea, Argentinal  Only a few days left before nine youth from the Basque Country arrive in Necochea on July 18th to participate in the 2014 Hator Hona program.  For three weeks, the group comprised of: Beñat Konde Untzilla (Elgoibar), Eñaut Arretxe Agirre (Segura), Itxaso Sáenz de Lafuente, González de Mendivil (Gasteiz), Izaro Intsausti (Ordizia), Nekane Agirre Saldias (Sunbilla), Olatz Mitxelena Larreta (Oiartzun), Uxue Etxebeste Eizagirre (Alkiza), Xabier Maritxalar Errandonea (Lesaka) and Xabier Urtasun Eraso (Irurita) will be in charge of workshops on Basque music, language, cooking, and sports for their peers in Necochea.

During their stay they will also join the local community in at the St Ignatius celebration that will take place on July 31st. Program follows:

Activities began earlier this month with the joint celebration of San Fermin and Argentina’s Day of Independence at an event that took place at the Txoko Txiki at the clubhouse consisting of a typical txikiteo.  But July 7th and 9th only marked the beginning of an extensive list of event that the Euzko Etxea will host for its members and to community at large.

The Regional Pilota/Paleta tournament was held on June 27-28, and shortly the date for the Basketball tournament will be confirmed.

In August

Starting on August 1st, the club will show the documentary Gazta Zati Bat by Jon Maia; and there will be a dinner/dance on August 2nd to celebrate St Ignatius; on the 8th the Aitonas Festivities will be held, when grandparents in the club are treated to chocolate, cakes and traditional dancing.  On the same Friday, but at 10pm, the Day of the White Virgin will be celebrated with traditional garlic soup.

August’s program will conclude on the 16th with an artistic evening and dance where dancers from the Gazte Alai group will show off what they’ve learned this year.  The Taberna will serve txistorra, solomillo, and sandwiches, admission is free and open to the public.

The club has also invited everyone to a concert by folklorist Silvia Iriondo on July 26th at the Almodo Bar, located at Av. 59 between 62 and 64.
