Barranquilla, Colombia. In this last day of the2020 "non-Sanfermines," we share a message from Barranquilla written by Iker Guillermo López who, on the occasion of San Fermin sent us some lines and a drawing, mentioning the strong ties that unite the city of Barranquilla with the capital of Navarre, taking advantage to pay tribute to a Basque from his city, "our Basque Mr.Jacinto Sarasua Guruceta from Eibar" "jatorra, brave, merchant, great artist, painter, writer and prominent athlete," one of whose paintings has inspired the drawing with the running of the bulls he sends us.

Represented in the drawing “the city of Barranquilla in times of yesteryear, full of color and liveliness, here it represents the San Fermin festivities in the ancient street of the cows (currently street 30) in front of the Church of San Roque, the city’s popular patron saint.  A symbol of union and ties between Barranquilla and Pamplona and Euskal Herria." “With this drawing, we would like to do two things,” he explains, “celebrate San Fermin from our land, Barranquilla and pay a small tribute to our Basque from Eibar, Mr. Jacinto Sarasua Guruceta.”

Iker Guillermo López, Vicente Fararony (artist) and Vilma Parra, euskaltzales from Barranquilla

"Few people can reach their advanced age with such a blessed human and spiritual expression. It is for all of the above that we are pleased to pay this small tribute, from the Diaspora sympathizing with Basque culture, based on one of his agile drawings that he created in good taste."

“We know that this global pandemic has affected everyone, but it is not a reason to stop celebrating.  This is the time to adapt and Basques know what that is.  It is the time to reinvent ourselves and keep our traditions alive.  Gora San ferminak! BizikoDitugu2021! May the only bullfight be the virus this year!  Besarkada bero bat guztioi Barranquillatik!” his note concludes.
