The Hiru Erreka Basque club and the Basque Pampa Group invite you to participate in a festival that will take place on the first weekend of October in San Francisco de Bellocq, near Tres Arroyos, Argentina. The events will begin on Saturday, but the main activities will take place on Sunday coinciding with the end of the Mus tournament, Tortilla contest, and dance and music performances among others. The goal is to create a completely Basque atmosphere and so organizers have invited neighboring clubs to join in the fiesta. The definitive program will be published once participants’ responses are received.

Tres Arroyos, Argentina.  The “Basque Gastronomic Fest ‘Between Land and Sea’ will take place on the first weekend of October, in San Francisco de Bellocq, near Tres Arroyos, organized by the local Basque club, and the Rural Basque Pampa Tourism group, Activities will take place at the Escuela #22, that has a large multi-purpose area in case the doesn’t allow for it to be held outside.

Activities will begin on Saturday the 5th in the afternoon with excursions around the area (2pm) and a Mus Tournament (8pm).  This will take place inside Escuela #22 and the entrance fee is $160 per team.  The winners will receive half of the entrance fees collected.

Contest Basque Country style

The highlight of the event will be the Tortilla contest that will take place on Sunday morning.  “The idea is to have a contest much like they do in the Basque Country with judges and regulation.  We are still trying to find judges since we want moderately-well-known people who don’t have anything to do with the Basque club,” explains Marian Erneta, club secretary.

Anyone interested in participating can consult the rules here.  Registration deadline is September 27 including a $50 fee.  The top three winners will be awarded $1,000. $500, and $300 respectively.

Other events include more tours in the morning, a workshop on Basque and lunch.  In the afternoon, awards will be presented to the Muslaris and cooks, and later local Basque dance groups and those from other clubs will perform.  The program will also include a talk on the History of San Francisco de Bellocq and its Basque connection and will close with traditional music from Euskal Herria.

“Shows will be uniquely Basque, and so we would like to count on the most Basque clubs as possible.  In that way we were thinking that not only could they participate in the Tortilla contest, but that they could also make some for sale, or even sell Basque souvenirs, in order to recuperate funds used for travel, for example,” according to club sources.
