Filmmaker, Josu Martinez, participates in the presentation of the CC16Project, Comodoro Rivadavia at the Jon Villelabeitia Archive

Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina. Jon Villelabeitia was a Basque who settled in Patagonia and was pioneer in the region in the area of film.  This Tuesday, May 21st, the film director and researcher from Bilbao Josu Martínez will participate in the presentation of the CC16 Initiative Project that aims to classify, evaluate and restore the work done by Jon Villelabeitia, creator a the Audiovisual Production Center at the National University of Patagonia San Juan Bosco, named after him.  The event will begin with an Aurresku performed by dantzaris from the local Basque club, and will be presided by the University’s president, Dr. Carlos Manuel de Marziani.

At the presentation, Martinez will give a talk about his activity as part of the research team “Nor,” from the University of the Basque Country and will present his documentary “Jainkoak ez dit barkatzen” (God doesn’t forgive me). The event will begin at 7pm at the Spanish Theater and admission is free and open to the public.

Also as part of activities related to the project, on Thursday and Friday, May 23-24, the Basque director will teach a seminar on three topics: “The Basque Country seen by foreign filmmakers;” “Expatriated Basque filmmakers,” including Villelabeitia; and “Images of current Basque film.” The seminar is from 9am-1pm at the Audiovisual Center at the university, again admission is free and open to the public.
