The Basque-Argentinean Diaspora is getting ready once again for this huge annual event. The Semana Nacional Vasca (National Basque Week) will take place November 2-10 in Villa Maria, Cordoba. The event will include entertainment from the Basque Country, with Gozategi, and will also be attended by delegates, dancers and participants from all over the country. This will also be the site for the First Regional Congress of South American Basque Communities with 10 national delegations participating.

Villa Maria, Argentina.  In the middle of the province of Cordoba, the city of Villa Maria will be the site for the first time in 10 years of the Semana Nacional Vasca. The festival will start next Saturday and will run through November 10, with its main events on the weekend of the 8-10, when Basque Government authorities will visit including the Secretary General of Foreign Action, Marian Elorza; the Director of the Basque Community Abroad, Asier Vallejo; and the delegate of Euskadi for Argentina and Mercosur, Sara Pagola.

The First Regional Congress of South American Basque Communities will also take place in conjunction with Semana Vasca. According to organizers, the meeting will be attended by: Oscar Goitia, of San Pablo, Brazil; Juan Antonio Cervera of Santiago, Chile; Liliana Guzmán, of Bogotá, Colombia; Libe de Zulategi, of Medellin, Colombia; Catalina Fernández, of Antioquia, Colombia; Renato García Eguskiza, of La Habana, Cuba; Raúl Noblecilla, of Lima, Peru; Eddy Irigoitia, of Asunción, Paraguay; Iñaki Mirandona Idigoras, of San Salvador, El Salvador; Juan Pedro Arin, of Montevideo, Uruguay; Gloria Zuazola, of Montevideo, Uruguay; Adela Soto Sudaire de Beriau, of Salto, Uruguay; Mariella Arbeleche, of FIVU, Uruguay; Pedro Arriaga Aguirre, ofCaracas, Venezuela; and representatives of FEVA, Argentina.

Basque music and the Basque language will be present thanks to the group Maral (Argentina) who will play Friday night at the dance, as well as by the group Gozategi (Euskadi) who will do the same on Saturday.  The complete program follows:

Saturday, November 2

-12:30, Visit of the Gernika Plaza. Place: Av. Rawson and By, Argentine in front of the ESIL school

Monday, November 4

-16:00.  Presentation of the banners of the Gernika 75th Anniversary Exhibit, Place: Leonardo Favio Cultural Center Auditorium

Wednesday, November 6

-21:00, Documentary Bombing of Gernika. Place: Leonardo Favio Cultural Center Auditorium

Thursday, November 7

-Reception for Basque Country authorities. Place: Eusko Etxea, in the Euskal Herria room, Lisandro de al torre 33. Time to be confirmed.

-21:00, Presentation of The Anthology of Basque Poets. Place: Eusko Etxea, Euskal Herria room.

Friday, November 8

-8:00-12:00.  Delegation Reception. Place: Bomarraca Room, Antonio Sobral 550.  Delegations who arrive later will also be greeted at the same place

-Euskera exhibit.  Place: Bomarraca Room.  The exhibit will be open to the public for three days

-Play in Basque. Place: Bomarraca Room, time to be confirmed.

-9:00-17:00, South American Basque communities meeting. Place: Auditorium OSDA, Santa fe 1155

-17:30, Talk – “Nations without State.” Place: University of the UNVM, Entre Rios 1431

-Open exhibit, “Gernika’s 75th Anniversary.” Place: Leonardo Favio Community Center. The exhibit will be open to the public for three days.

-20:00, Choir meeting. Place: Community Center Leonardo Favio, Av. Gobernador Sabattini 200

-00:00, Public dance with performances by Maral. Place: Bomarraca Room.

Saturday, November 9

-12:30, Presentation of the Ikurriña to clubs that have asked for them. Place: Euzko Etxea, Euskal Herria Room.

-15:00 Kids’ games. Bomarraca room

Sunday, November 10

-11:30 Dances in the Plaza. Place: Grotto of the Virgin of Pompeya

-13:00 Farwell lunch and presentation of HABE diplomas to Basque students.  Presentation of the best decorated alpargata and txapela. Place: Bomarraca room.
