The course, “The Internationalization Process of Firms: the Basque Business Model,” has begun successfully at the Autonomous National University of Mexico (UNAM) with more than twenty students and faculty from the College of Accounting and Administration. The course was organized by EmpreBask, the Association of Basque Entrepreneurs of Mexico, with the collaboration of the Delegation of Euskadi. The classes are taught by Emprebask members themselves who will share their experience and knowledge with the students.

Mexico City, Mexico.  On February 13, 24 students of the College of Accounting and Administration at the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) began a course on the internationalization of business taught by members of Emprebask, the association of Basque entrepreneurs in Mexico.  This is the first edition of this course that is taught in the office of the Basque Delegation of Euskadi in Mexico.

The course seeks to teach students in a different way, directly by entrepreneurs who are relevant in public administration, according to Berenice Villamil, coordinator of business curriculum at the College of Accounting and Administration, during the inauguration.  “For many of them it is the first introduction to the working world,” she explained.

“There is nowhere else that they will have the same opportunity to learn directly from those who have lived through the reality of internationalization, the ones who make the decisions and who have lead their multinational companies successfully,” she explained.

Innovative Theme

Laura Zini, manager of Emprebask México, is very proud of “spreading the Basque model in Mexico” and “its processes of implementation, its work philosophy and its models of internationalization.”  On behalf of Itzel Olague, representative of the Basque Government in Mexico, she highlighted the good relationship between the UNAM and the Basque world, since they also teach Basque language and culture at this same university.

Even so, the theme of the course is very innovative, according to Olague, who will be one of the presenters during the course.  In her presentation she will explain the experience of a Basque importer and the role that public administration plays in the processes of internationalization of Basque business, with support and programs intended for such.

Other presenters include: Santiago Barcon, Director General of Inelap, Grupo Arteche; Francisco Pi the General Director of IDOM; Maria Teresa Fernandez, delegate from the Mondragon Cooperative; Ignacio Garcia, Director of Ikusi; Laura Gonzalez de Artaza, American Director of DOIN Communication; Jordi Sole Sildevila, managing Director of the Development of Business of Single Consulting; and Jose A. Jimenez Probert, Director of the legal area of Lecumberri, Lopez and Associates.
