Boise State University’s Basque Studies Program will hold a soccer summer camp, with the presence of Bilbao Athletic Club’s women players as instructors. Dates are between July 21 and 24. It will be an interesting experience linking soccer, Basque communities abroad and one of the big Basque teams, a first step for next year's visit of Athletic's first team to Boise.

Boise, Idaho. Athletic Club women’s team will be training, between the 21st and the 24th of July in Boise, Idaho. Not to keep in shape, though, but to direct Football Summer Camps, aimed at youth. The program is designed for girls and boys aged 5-16.

So far, as said to EuskalKultura.com by Argia Beristain, organizer of the camps, “the response has been overwhelmingly positive and projected a registration of over 300 boys and girls from Idaho and throughout the western United States.”

All the funds raised will be reinvested in both the Program for Basque Studies at Boise State University and a possible soccer match, with the presence of Athletic Club’s male team that they would like to host at next year’s Jaialdi. “Basque Studies at Boise State presently does not have an endowment and without one we risk losing Basque Studies in the University environment in the great Basque diaspora city of Boise. With the funds raised from the game in 2015, Basque Studies at Boise State will be in existence in perpetuity,” clarified Beristain.

The camp will coincide with the annual San Inazio Basque Festival, between Monday July 21 and Thursday July 24. The youngest ones, aged 5-7, will train for 90 minutes a day, between 9:00 and 10:30am, for $100. The youth between 8 and 16-years-old, will have two different options, to wit: Full day program (9:00am to 3:00pm), for $225, or Half day program (9:00am to 12:00pm), for $150.

All the activities will be held in the Simplot Soccer Complex, in Boise. For more information email Jim Thomas at jimthomas@boisestate.edu or leave him a message: (208) 426-5425. Information can also be gotten by writing to info@basquestudies.org.

The Program for Basque Studies at Boise State University is behind this project, in collaboration with the BSU’s women’s soccer team and Idaho Youth Soccer Association.
